The North Carolina Department of Transportation is starting the project development,
environmental, and engineering studies for the replacement of bridge #122 on SR 1549, Garvey
Bridge Rd, over the North Fork New River, Ashe County, North Carolina.

The US Army Corps of Engineers is the lead agency and a permit is anticipated under the Section
404 process with the USACE.

The project vicinity map is attached, and the coordinates are 36.542632, -81.352090.

We would appreciate any information you might have that would be helpful in evaluating potential
environmental impacts of the project. Your comments will be used in the preparation of a
NEPA/SEPA Environmental Document, in accordance with the State and/or National
Environmental Policy Act.
