CATFISH POND II MITIGATION BANK PARCEL- Bahama, NC
The Catfish Pond II Mitigation Bank Parcel is located in Durham County, about 12 miles north of the City
of Durham, within the community of Bahama.The Parcel is located immediately adjacent to the Full
Delivery North Carolina Division of Mitigation Services Catfish Pond Mitigation Site, DWR Project No.
2018-0196v1 and DMS ID No. 100039. The Parcel involved riparian restoration and enhancement via
cattle exclusion on Catfish Creek,two unnamed tributaries (UT1 and Mountain Tributary), and a ditch
(Ditch D). The project is located within the Neuse River Basin Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC)
03020201020040 and North Carolina Division of Water Resources (NCDWR) Subbasin 03-04-01 and is
being submitted for riparian buffer mitigation credit and nutrient offset credit in the Neuse River Basin
HUC 03020201 within the Falls Lake Watershed. Prior to mitigation activities the site was an active cow
pasture, partially used for hay production, with some forested areas. Project overview and credit
applications are located in the tables below.

The conservation easement protects 31.54 acres. Of those 31.54 acres, about 7.87 acres are riparian
buffer restoration, 2.94 acres are buffer enhancement via cattle exclusion, and 19.04 acres are for
nutrient offset credits.
The stream restoration and enhancement areas from top of bank to 100 feet and the ditch restoration
areas from top of bank to 50 feet are viable for either riparian buffer credits or nutrient offset credits
and can be converted upon approval by NCDWR.The stream credits between 101 to 200 feet and ditch
credits between 51 to 200 feet will only be used for nutrient offsets and cannot be converted into buffer
credits.
There are no preservation activities on this parcel.
The parcel was planted from March 10-13, 2021 with a total of 16,960 trees,for a planting density of
604 stems per acre. Where possible, soil was ripped to a depth of 15-18 inches to reduce soil
compaction before planting. Seeding was not deemed necessary, as pasture grasses and other
herbaceous cover was already providing good ground cover.Tree species planted in riparian restoration
areas are listed below.

Easement boundaries have been identified in the field to ensure clear distinction between the Parcel,
the adjoining DMS conservation easement, and adjacent properties.The boundary between the Parcel
and DMS conservation easement is identified by 6 foot "u-posts" with attached easement placards.The
boundary between the Parcel and bordering cow pasture is marked by a fence with signs mounted along
it and "u-posts" with attached easement placards.The fence is offset approximately 2 feet outside of
the conservation easement boundary. Signage along the boundary line has been placed at minimum
every 100 feet. Contact information for the conservation easement holder has been included on
easement markers.
