Subject: RE: [External] Permit Modification for equipment retrieval, SAW-2019-01666 Bogue
Banks Project 3
Doug,
The Division of Coastal Management also authorizes the requested efforts to retrieve the lost spreader, in accordance
with your emails, and subject to all mitigative commitments made in your request and all conditions of the federal
permit modification. In addition to the requirement for daily coordination with the sea turtle monitors prior to the
commencement of work, please also notify us as to the day the work will commence and when this work has concluded.
Any changes to the proposed activity will need to be coordinated with us and may require further approval prior to
conducting work. Please let us know immediately should the contractor propose any changes in the scope of work or
approved timeframe as stated in the federal permit modification.
Additionally, I would like to express my concern that the information provided in your first email requesting this work
appears to indicate that this equipment was lost in early April, and no coordination effort was made prior to the start of
turtle nesting season. If that is the case, this effort, if so critical, and given that it requires the use of heavy equipment on
the beach past May 1, should have been included in the prior request to allow for an extension for demobilization. I ask
that you please also relay this concern to GLDD.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Heather
