RE: Follow-up letter for stormwater release on 1/11/2019 STORMWATER PERMITTING
To whom it may concern;
This letter follows the telephone notification on 1/11/2019 of a cooling tower water release to stormwater.
Cree experienced an overflow of cooling tower water on Friday,January 11,2019 at its Durham facility located at
4600 Silicon Drive.
Our investigation revealed that proper maintenance was not conducted by the contractor who owns and operates
the tower on site. Cree personnel provided courtesy reminders to said contractor leading up to the event.
Approximately 50-gallons of cooling tower water was released. The released water overflowed both to ground
and directly into a nearby stormwater drain. Subsequent examination of the affected outfall and spill area
revealed no observable impact to the surrounding environment.
Moving forward, Cree is working with said contractor to develop and follow an appropriate preventative
maintenance schedule on this tower, and any other potential stormwater impacts within their control.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you and best regards;
Sincerely,
Donna La7.7ari
