ENGINEERING INSPECTION REPORT
South Martha Washington Canal Project
January 29, 2013
Attending: Dave Byrd (USFWS) and Wesley Shipp (QE). Time: 4:00pm — 4:30pm. Partly
cloudy, warm (65 °F).
Met Wesley as he was exiting the site with another employee and discussed Weir 2 progress. QE
had four working employees on site. three welders and a dozer operator. Equipment included a
crane, excavator, dozer, motor grader, dump truck, high capacity pump, generators, welding
units, mobile office, enclosed trailer, fuel tank, portable toilet, a truck and a van.
Work Status: Weir 1: work completed.
Weir 2: QE has temporarily halted rip rap placement and work on attaching the pile caps below
the flashboard bays. Cross braces between H -piles and sheeting are currently being attached and
is expected to be completed this week. Structure painting is underway. Once painting is
completed, riprap placement will be completed. Inclement weather (snow and rain) has slowed
progress since the last inspection.
E &S Control: In place and functional. No issues noted. Access road was wet, due to recent
snowmelt, though discussions with Wesley indicated road conditions improved since Tuesday.
Engineering Inspections: up to date.
