Excavation will be pinpoint through use of an excavating machine placed on top of a steel barge. Excavated material will be placed on the barge in a contained area. Once excavation is complete, the material will be hauled via barge to 43 Causeway drive, Ocean Isle Beach, NC where it will be transferred to a clearly marked silt fence containment area more than 30' landward of the mean high water line. The spoil will be dried in this location and then used as backfill for a bulkhead on the same parcel. The purpose of the excavation is to allow the property owner to regain water access for use of boating where shoaling has occurred in recent years. The existing mean low water depth in this area is - 0.5' with a goal to make the mean low water depth -3.5'.
