Skvada, III Governor Director Secretary January 11, 2013 DWQ# 12- 0072V2 Mecklenburg County Mr. Adam Long Piedmont Natural Gas 4720 Piedmont Row Drive Charlotte, NC 28273 Subject: Request for revision of crossing method; Stream 3.1 (Piedmont Natural Gas) This Office is in receipt of your request to change the method of stream crossing at stream 3.1 from a jack and bore to open cut. In your original permit application, Stream crossing number 3.1 was permitted as a jack and bore, with a 70 -foot construction corridor (30 feet permanent and 40 feet temporary) to account for removal of stream bank vegetation, potential bank grading and piling placement to accommodate a temporary equipment bridge. Due to the extremely incised stream channel, it is our understanding that the contractor determined that the bore pit would - require a depth and width exceeding that which could be accomplished practicably. Therefore you have requested that stream crossing No. 3.1 be changed from a jack and bore to a conventional (trenched) crossing as an amendment to the existing 401 permit and NWP -12. This Office has no objection to this request and it is hereby granted. It is our understanding that no additional impacts will be incurred as a result of this change in crossing method. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Burkhard in the Mooresville Regional Office at 704 - 663 -1699 or Ms. Karen Higgins in the Central Office in Raleigh 919 - 807 -6360.
