Re: Kittrell Hill MY1 Report Comments (DWR Email Dated: 4/20/21)
1. "No height data was provided of planted stems in plots. If no
height data was collected, please provide an explanation as to
why and commit to collecting and including vegetation data in
all future monitoring reports."
Height data was collected at baseline monitoring as well as
after the first full growing season (MY1). Height data is now
included in the revised Table 3a (Avg=52.8cm) attached and
will be included in future monitoring reports.
2. "No vigor data was provided of planted stems in plots. If no
height (sic "vigor") data was collected, please provide an
explanation as to why and commit to collecting and including
vegetation data in all future monitoring reports."
Vigor data was collected at baseline monitoring as well as
after the first full growing season (MY1). Vigor data was
included in the original Table 3a as well as the revised Table
3a. All planted stems are showing excellent vigor (Avg=3.8) as
noted in Table 3a.
3. "During the As -Built Review, DWR noted non-compliance with
the diversity of planted stems. In response to DWR comments,
Eco Terra indicated more species (at least 3 species) would be
planted to increase diversity within the site/plots. However, no
information is provided in the report indicating a supplemental
plant was implemented. Please explain."
Supplemental planting occurred late winter on February 23-24,
2021 post MY1 monitoring. Details of the supplemental planting
will be included in MY2 monitoring. Four (4) additional species
of trees including 1,000 cherrybark oak (Quercus fa/cater),
1,000 Shumard oak (Quercus shumardii), 1,000 river birch
(Betula nigra), and 1,000 sycamore (Platanus occidentalis),

were distributed evenly across the site. This supplemental
planting resulted in increasing the species diversity to 9
species total for the project.
4. "The report indicated there was tree damage due to incidental
mowing by the provider. However, the extent of that tree
damage was not described. Please describe the extent of the
damage to planted trees and if necessary, include a figure
showing where the mowing impacted stems."
Mowing damage was minimal and not extensive enough to
document further considering tree density and survival (679
stems/ac).
5. "Collecting vegetation data after leaf drop will make it
challenging to collect accurate species data of the planted
stems. Please make efforts in 2021 to collect vegetation data
prior to leaf drop."
Year-round tree identification is an important component of
project success. Efforts to collect data prior to leaf drop will
be implemented if warranted by monitoring staff.
6. The monitoring reports submitted to DWR in February 2021.
Per the MI3I, monitoring reports are to be submitted prior to
December 31 of each year. Due to COVID delays, DWR
understands the delay of the submittal of this report. Please
make efforts in 2021 to submit your monitoring report prior to
December 31.
Per the MI3I, every effort will be made to complete and submit
monitoring reports prior to December 31 of each year moving
forward.
