Wilkes County, Village of Walnut Creek, NPDES NCO055590 - If using chlorine, recommend consideration of conversion to non-chemical disinfection such as ultraviolet or ozone. Sports fisheries and possibly listed species or suitable habitats could be present in the general watershed. Aquatic species, especially eggs and juveniles may be harmed by chlorine entering stream habitats. Generally, chlorine disinfection and de-chlorination methods, including emergency chlorine usage can distribute potentially harmful chemicals to receiving streams and aquatic environments. Where these practices can be avoided, we prefer non-chemical methods.
