Open areas in the corridor are too maintained to support this species. In addition, the NCNHP does not show occurrences of this species within one mile of the project area. Bridge 224: There is a large powerline ROW transecting the project area that might provide habitat for the Schweinitz’s sunflower; however, it was determined that the level of maintenance within the ROW in upland areas is too high to support this species. In addition, the NCNHP does not show occurrences of this species within one mile of the project area. We were at these bridges in July to survey for pogonia, which is outside the flowering window for the sunflower, but close enough that we would likely notice it if it was occurring in the project area. Plus, habitat, if it exists, is very marginal. Let me know if you need anything else! I spoke with Nikki in Division 7 and she said the sunflower is 2 found in a corner of the County; but since there wasn’t mention of it in the tech memo, she wasn’t concerned. However, I would prefer an email or something similar to this effect. The outstanding bridges in Guilford County for which I have not prepared the environmental documents yet are: 17BP.7.R.114 – Bridge No. 52 on South Scientific Street 17BP.7.R.116 – Bridge 224 on McConnell Road Thank you, Aileen Aileen S.
