This now also includes a reduction in hand clearing at Site 9 resulting from the added mechanized clearing and excavation. To clarify, the impacts provided in my email from this morning have not changed, though due to rounding and combining with other previous amounts on the impact summary sheet, the adjusted sheet totals appear larger. Please let us know if you have any questions. Chris Rivenbark NCDOT- Environmental Analysis Unit (919) 707-6152 From: Rivenbark, Chris Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2021 9:47 AM To: thomas.a.steffens@usace.army.mil; Ward, Garcy <garcy.ward@ncdenr.gov>; Lane, Stephen <stephen.lane@ncdenr.gov>; Brittingham, Cathy <cathy.brittingham@ncdenr.gov> Cc: Cashin, Gordon E <gcashin@ncdot.gov>; Lane, Heather C <hclane@ncdot.gov> Subject: Permit Site 9, Havelock Bypass (R-1015) All, We've received the additional amounts of mechanized clearing needed for bent installation associated with the bridges (5 & 6) at permit site 9. Attached are plans depicting trees the contractor has determined need to be removed, warranting the additional mechanized clearing. The total mechanized clearing for all stumps is 457 ft2 (0.0105 ac). This amount excludes any portion of a stump that fell within the footprint of a cap. To reach this total the amounts below were added: • 2' to the diameter of any tree 8" and under • 4' to any tree ranging from 9"- 24" • 6' to any tree over 24" Additionally, excavation in wetlands will be needed at both bridges for the installation of several bents due to their proximity to the ground. This will require 836 ft2 (0.0192 ac) of excavation at bridge 5 and 280 ft2 (0.0064 ac) of excavation at bridge 6, bringing the total additional permanent impacts to 0.0361 ac. To perform this i excavation, the contractor will use temporary matting in wetlands which will require an additional 1,280 ft2 (0.0294 ac) of temporary fill. The impact summary sheet has been revised to account for these additional impacts. We are requesting approval via an in field modification from the USACE and NCDWR. Attached is an updated consistency certification for NCDCM. Due to the project currently being under construction, we request your respective agencies review this revision as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and please let us know if you have any questions or need any additional information.
