TIP Project No U 2719 Wake County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation ( NCDOT) will hold a public meeting
known as a citizens informational workshop on Monday December 3 2012 from 4 00 7 00
p in The workshop will be held at the Method Community Center Pioneer Building located at
514 Method Road in Raleigh
NCDOT has begun the planning and analysis work for the proposed widening and
improvements of the Cliff Benson Beltline (I 440) and its inteichanges from south of Walnut
Street in Cary to north of Wade Avenue in Raleigh The project is about 3 5 miles long
The project section has four through lanes, while north and south of the project have six
thiough lanes this causes a bottleneck on both ends The four through lanes in the project
section regularly experience congestion and traffic volumes are predicted to increase in the
future While no preliminary designs have been made the potential improvements are likely to
include widening to match the number of lanes on I 440 to the north and south interchange
improvements bridge and structure improvements and pavement upgrades
The project is currently scheduled for right of way acquisition to begin in 2016 followed
by construction beginning in 2018 These dates are tentative and are subject to change
NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal open house style setting to
answer questions and gather public input regarding the proposed project The opportunity to
submit written comments or questions will be provided and is encouraged Citizens may attend at
any time during the workshop hours A short video showing the need for the project will be
