Section D: Summary of Findings/Comments
1. A review of the data submitted by the facility for the
past twelve months show the facility to be in
compliance with the limits contained in your NPDES
discharge permit.
2. Your facility is experiencing difficulty in operation
due to excessive lint and grit entering your system. A
system was installed to address the lint problem but it
is not being utilized due to the expense of the screen
replacement. It is understood that excessive grit in
the system is the problem there. The bypass of your
screening process is not allowed. Too many of the
downstream process units are being affected. You
should begin at once to explore possible solutions for
the removal of the grit. If modifications cannot be
made to remove the grit from entering the collection
system, then thought should be given to the possibility
of a grit channel to remove it before it enters the
screen.
3. Three aerators were out of service on the inspection
date. These must be repaired and placed back into
service immediately. There was heavy lint
accumulations on the blowers. This will shorten the
life of your aerators.
4. You must submit an approved sludge management plan to
this office within 30 days of receipt of this letter,
as was discussed with Mr. Westbrook.
5. The effluent appeared slightly turbid with moderate
amounts of suspended solids present. It is suspected
that the buildup of lint in the system is the cause of
this.
6. Toxicity testing must be done in the months shown in
your NPDES Discharge Permit.
