SPECIFICATIONS FOR INITIAL SYSTEM INSTALLATION OF 3-BEDROOM NPDES SINGLE FAMILY SURFACE DISCHARGE WASTEWATER SYSTEM SERVING 7846 Amesbury Road — Fayetteville, North Carolina PREPARED BY: MATT BURDETTTE REVIEWED BY: BRIAN J. KRAYNAK, PE BATEMAN CIVIL SURVEY COMPANY, PC 200 NORTH MAIN STREET HOLLY SPRINGS, NORTH CAROLINA 27540 o aaeaaeeeeaeo ‘v e °°° CAR(J '0ai o oo'_ / sP 1.-4 c, EXPLANATION OF SYSTEM OPERATION AND DESIGN The wastewater disposal system recommended for this site consists of a surface disposal system for a 3-bedroom single-family home containing the following: an existing 1,000 gallon septic tank ; a proposed 1000-gallon re -circulation tank equipped with an AdvanTex re -circulating fixed media filter and controls; a UV disinfection unit with final disposal through a rip rap disposal pad. It should be kept in mind that this system is designed to accommodate a moderate amount of wastewater from the household and that all measures should be undertaken to minimize the volume of water entering the system to include the following precautions: 1. Providing water conserving plumbing fixtures within the house; 2. Making rapid repairs to leaking plumbing fixtures; 3. Developing conservative water use habits on the part of all members of the household; 4. Monitoring and maintaining the system as may be necessary for proper operation; 5. Checking and pumping the septic tank sludge on a regular basis of approximately every two years when garbage grinders are not included; and 6. Insuring proper installation of this system by a competent installation contractor. The system as recommended is intended to provide satisfactory wastewater disposal for the site for a reasonable period of time. Due to the rather complex inter -relationship between soil properties, system installation, wastewater habit patterns of the household, system maintenance, vegetative activity, climate and rainfall, and other factors over which the Engineer has no control, yet which ultimately influence the successful operation of a wastewater disposal system, the Engineer requires that he/she be relieved of any liability that may result from failing or malfunctioning of this system of wastewater disposal. The persons occupying this residence should be familiar with the contents of the Engineer's recommendations. A conference should be held with the Engineer and the installation contractor in attendance prior to beginning any actual construction of the wastewater disposal system in order to answer any questions and to ensure that the installation contractor will make no changes to the recommended system without first obtaining written permission for such changes from the Engineer. The contractor shall coordinate his work schedule with the Designer and with representatives of the health department in order that appropriate and timely inspections of the construction work can be made. SITE PREPARATION REQUIREMENTS 1. The existing wastewater piping system from the residence to the location of the proposed septic tank shall be 4" diameter Schedule 40 PVC sewer pipe laid at 1.0% minimum grade. 2. The existing septic tank is a 1,000 gallon, reinforced precast concrete septic tank with full baffle, and shall be retrofitted with access risers to each chamber from ground level for checking the sludge level and pumping as needed and shall be retrofitted with an effluent filter. Wastewater piping from the septic tank to the location of the proposed re -circulation tank shall be 4" diameter Schedule 40 PVC sewer pipe laid at 1.0% minimum grade. 3. The proposed re -circulation tank shall be a 1,000 gallon, reinforced precast concrete pump tank and shall have easy access to each end of the tank from ground level for maintenance of the pump, control floats and Orenco re- circulating splitter valve provided by Orenco with the AdvanTex treatment system. All piping shall be schedule 40 PVC and constructed as shown on plan sheet 2 of 2. 4. Effluent will pass through the media filter and will collect in the bottom of the media filter pod as shown on plan sheet 2 of 3 and will flow back to the Orenco re -circulating splitter valve. The effluent will be split with a portion flowing to the UV disinfection unit and a portion flowing back to the re- circulation tank. 5. The media filter shall be constructed using materials provided by Orenco and specified on plan sheet 2 of 2. 6. After leaving the pretreatment media filter the wastewater will flow by gravity to a UV disinfection unit. After passing through the UV disinfection unit the wastewater will flow by gravity to a rip rap disposal pad for final dispersion. 7. The contractor shall smooth the disturbed land surfaces after installation of all components of the wastewater treatment and disposal system have been completed, and shall leave the surface neatly shaped to shed rainwater. All disturbed areas and the discharge area shall be seeded with grass and covered with straw. The septic tank and recirculation tank should be checked periodically for sludge accumulation and should be pumped out as needed with the sludge being disposed of properly. Check yearly if garbage grinder is included within the wastewater system (not recommended) or check every two years for systems without garbage grinders. 2. Review the owner's manual for the control panel and check control panel for normal function during the weekly system inspection. 3. The discharge area should be protected from stormwater accumulation and from excessive sprinkling of the lawn in the discharge area. Pipe downspout stormwater away from the discharge area. 4. The development of conservative water use habits by all members of the household will greatly enhance the life of this system. 5. Leaking plumbing fixtures should be corrected as soon as possible, or could result in premature failure of the wastewater disposal system. 6. Check the bulb in UV unit monthly and replace annually. 7. The effluent filter at the outlet of the septic tank shall be checked and cleaned as needed during all routine inspections, and at least twice yearly. 8. All rutted or eroded areas that may occur within the area over the surface discharge area shall be carefully filled with suitable loamy soil material. For AdvanTex® Treatment Systems VeriComm® AXB Control Panels Applications VeriComm° AXB1 and AXB2 remote telemetry control panels are used with two -pump operations — recirculation and discharge (on -demand or timed) — for AdvanTex° Treatment Systems. Coupled with the VeriComm web -based Monitoring System, these affordable control panels give water/wastewater system operators and maintenance organizations the ability to monitor and control each individual system's operation remotely, with real-time efficiency, while remaining invisible to the homeowner. VeriComm AXB panels allow remote operators to change system parameters, including timer settings, from the web interface. itum ®lily' ;ill', Typical AXB VeriComm Control Panel Standard Models: VCOMAXB1, VCOM AXB2 To Specify... To specify this panel for your installation, require the following: Basic Control Logic: Three Operating Modes • A "Start-up Mode" for the initial 30 days, during which the system collects trend data to establish operating standards for future reference. • A "Normal Mode" that manages day-to-day functions. • A "Test Mode" that suspends data collection and alarm reporting during installation and service. Data Collection and Utilization • Data logs of system conditions and events, such as pump run times, pump cycles, and alarm conditions. Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Logic • Troubleshooting capabilities that can report suspected failed components, which then trigger Alarms. Advanced Control Logic • Advanced control logic that activates during float malfunctions to diagnose the situation and keep the system operating normally until servicing. Technical Data Sheet Communication and Alarm Management • Remote telemetry capabilities coupled with a web -based moni- toring application (see VeriComm Monitoring System, ATD- WEB-VCOM-1) for communication and alarm management. Updating of point values (including timer settings) and receipt of queued changes during each communication session with host. Communication sessions that occur monthly, at a minimum, and more frequently during alarm conditions. • Multiple methods of communication, as follows: Call -In to VeriComm® Host — Automatic notification to host of "Alarms," which signal fault conditions that need to be addressed immediately (e.g., pump failure). — Automatic notification to host of "Alerts," which signal less critical fault conditions and which trigger the panel's troubleshooting logic and alternative operating mode (e.g., stuck float switch). — Automatic notification to host of "Updates," which include alarm updates or all -clear notifications following Alarms/Alerts, as well as normally scheduled monthly panel reports. — Manual, forced communication from panel to host to.effect an updating of point values and receipt of queued changes. Real -Time Direct Connection to Panel — Manual, direct connection at the site via RS-232 serial port, to allow a local operator real-time access to detailed logged data and the ability to change point values from a laptop. — Manual, forced communication by local operator/homeowner at the site to initiate an auto -answer mode, allowing a remote operator real-time access to detailed logged data and the ability to change point values. During real-time, manual connections, software with open architecture (and password security) is used; no proprietary software is required. VT100 protocol allows access and control from any computer modem (Mac or PC) with a simple communi- cation program (e.g., Windows' HyperTerminal); multilevel password protection in panel ensures that only qualified personnel can access the panel's data. Additional Features • Status light indicators on the board, including... — Flashing green LED for normal operation — Yellow LEDs for status of digital inputs — Red LEDs for status of digital outputs and modem activity • UL-recognized and FCC -approved For more information, try our online demo at www.vericomm.net (no password required). Pump curves show the relationship between flow (gpm) and pressure (TDH), providing a graphical representation of a pump's optimal performance range. Pumps perform best at their nominal flow rate —the value, measured in gpm, expressed by the first two numerals in an Orenco pump nomenclature. 400 350 300 mV • 250 Z • 200 U_ 0 • 150 I. 100 50 P1010 P10 Series 1/2 hp to 1 hp P1005 with 1/4 Dow controller l I 1 3 6 9 12 Gallons per Minute (gpm) Orenco Systems' Incorporated 1-800-348-9843 15 400 350 300 4-0 250 O Z 200 c3 C 150 1-6 100 50 P20 Series 1/2 hp to 1-1/2 hp P2015 -rj P2005 k ■■ I ■ TIM ■1■ 1 III Ern 1 I V ■.■■ 11 lim II 11 i ■■u■ ■■.■■ MI 5 i 1 10 15 20 Gallons per Minute (gpm) 25 I 30 a.
