The Ponderosa Creek Stabilization Project is located in Buncombe
County within the Biltmore Lake community. Ponderosa Creek flows
from Ponderosa Drive northwest into Enka Lake. Between Ponderosa
Drive and the power line right-of-way, the stream channel displays
areas of extreme incision and bank erosion. The channel has
recently deepened by 1-3ft, as evidenced by several knickpoints
propagating immediately upstream. The stream channel will be
stabilized via the installation of engineered woody jams with
downstream expansion areas. The goal of the restoration is to
prevent further channel incision and bank erosion. The proposed
measures represent a minimally -invasive, nature -based solution to
the geomorphic instabilities. Our proposed approach will be resilient
and provide ecological uplift.
