Dominion Energy - North Carolina (DENC) is planning to replace two
segments of their pipeline at the site. One section of pipeline crossing
has become exposed within one stream crossing and streambank
erosion is occurring. A second pipeline crossing area is also
exhibiting streambank erosion. The replacements will extend
approximately 50 linear feet on each side of each stream bank. The
segments of pipe will be replaced with new pipe sections that will be
installed in the same locations, but at an appropriate depth below the
streambed. DENC would also accommodate future maintenance
equipment access by constructing a low-water (`ford") crossings at
each stream.
DENC plans to appropriately grade and stabilize the eroded
streambanks following installation of the new pipe sections and low
water crossings construction. With workspace and access from
Sellerstown Road, we anticipate that the disturbance will exceed 1.0
acre. Therefore, submittal of an Erosion and Sediment Control
(E&SC) Plan to the North Carolina Department of Environmental
Quality (NCDEQ), Land Quality Section for approval will be required.
The project as proposed will require authorization from the US Army
Corps of Engineers and the North Carolina Division of Water
Resources (NCDWR). The applicable authorizations are NWP-12/GC
4133.
