Dominion Energy - North Carolina (DENC) is planning to replace a
segment of their pipeline that has become exposed in a streambed
along with approximately 50 linear feet of pipeline on each side of the
stream. Portions of the stream within the easement have become
eroded and the streambanks have become unstable. The exposed
segment of pipe will be replaced with a new section that will be
installed in the same location, but at an appropriate depth below the
streambed.
DENC plans to appropriately grade and stabilize the eroded
streambanks following installation of the new pipe. Assuming an
approximately 150-foot section of the existing 50-foot wide easement
around the stream will be used for construction, along with a 20-foot
wide access road from the terminus of Performance Drive, we
anticipate that the total land disturbance will be approximately 0.90
acre. Therefore, submittal of an Erosion and Sediment Control
(E&SC) Plan to the North Carolina Department of Environmental
Quality (NCDEQ), Land Quality Section for approval should not be
required.
The project as proposed will require authorization from the US Army
Corps of Engineers and the North Carolina Division of Water
Resources (NCDWR). The applicable authorizations are NWP-12/GC
4133.
