Stormwater Tier 1 Response to Oil and Grease Sampling Value at SDO1
Stormwater Tier 2 Response to Total Suspended Solids Sampling Value at SDO2
Permit NCG 080000
Certificate of Coverage NCG 08984
Dear Reporting Section:

On 01/25/2021, the first 2021 semi-annual stormwater analytical sampling event was conducted at the
Duke University Transportation Maintenance Garage, in accordance with the facility's obligation for the
above referenced permit and certificate of coverage.
Analytical results were received on 02/08/2021 with all results below their respective semi-annual
benchmark values except for one Oil and Grease value (35 mg/L) for Stormwater Discharge Outfall 1
(SDO1) and one Total Suspended Solids value (110 mg/L) from Stormwater Discharge Outfall 2 (SDO2).
In response to these results, we conducted a facility stormwater management inspection on 2/19/2021 in
accordance with the requirements listed in NCG 080000.
Additional site -wide Tier 1 response actions taken are as follows:
1) A universal absorbent boom was installed at SDO1 and SDO2.
2) The site was swept free of sediment and debris.
3) Dry cleanup of oil spills was completed by applying a peat based oil absorbent, sweeping it up and
disposing of it appropriately.
4) Pressure washing of the fuel pump area was completed on 03/11/2021. All wastewater was contained
and collected before it was disposed of through the on -site oil water separator that discharges to the
public sanitary sewer system.
5) An informal third party inspection of the diesel fuel pumps and above ground storage tank was
conducted on 03/18/2021.
In addition, Tier 2 response actions taken at SDO2 are as follows:
1) Precipitation was monitored from 02/09/2021 to 03/08/2021 for a qualifying monthly sampling event.
No flow occurred. The SDO2 February — March Monthly Discharge Monitoring Report is included in
Attachment 1.'
2) A monthly sampling event was conducted at SDO2 on 03/16/2021.

3) Between 04/09/2021 and 05/08/2021 precipitation will continue to be monitored for the next monthly
sampling event at SDO2.
The dates of the above response actions are included in Attachment 2? We have also made note of the
actions start date, completion date, inspection date (with attending personnel), and date and value of the
benchmark exceedances within the SPPP.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
