Reference: Infiltration Evaluation Pioneer Roofing Company Building Wilmington, North Carolina Job No. 1032-96 Dear vh-. Tripp: Soil Tech Engineering, Inc. has recently conducted a study of the subsurface soils within the Pioneer Roofing Company site located on Highway 421 north of Wilmington in New Hanover County, North Carolina. A representative visited the jobsite on September 16, 1996, to explore the subsurface conditions within the proposed stormwater infiltration pond area. Our representative explored the subsurface conditions at randomly selected locations to a depth of approximately 3 to 6 feet below the existing subgrade. Our representative also conducted a study of the infiltration rate of the surface soils. Our findings indicate generally uniform relatively free draining sands to the depths we were capable of investigating to using hand tools. Our infiltration test indicate an existing infiltration rate of 40 to 50 inches per hour. We found a perched groundwater condition ranging from approximately 12 to 44 inches below the existing ground surface at the locations explored during this study. This perched condition is probably due to the low topographic features on -site, because of the amount of stormwater runoff that is channeled through this area and due to the siltation and leaf litter that has collected in this area over the years. °` gATER EOCT 21 996 D PRQJ ri)Ct'13 Tripp Engineering, Inc. September 23, 1996 Page Two We believe that a significant amount of stormwater runoff traverses this area which will effect around-avater fluctuation siLynificantiv. We anticipate a oerched condition will re- establish itself at approximately Elevation 12.5 to 13.0 during the wetter months, We also anticipate a general decline in the presented infiltration rate due to ground vegetation and siltation. Annual maintenance of this area to maintain acceptable infiltration rates will be required. Please find the results of our field tests together with a sketch of the sampled locations attached Please feel free to contact our office if you have questions.
