RE: Report of Inliltration l-'valuauon
Eckerd Pharmacy — College Rd. & Shipyard Blvd.
Wilmington, North Carolina
Dear Mr. Rosenberger,
September 4, 2003
ECS, Ltd. Project No. 22.1065913
Engineering Consulting Services, Ltd. (ECS) recently conducted an infiltration evaluation for
the Eckerd Pharmacy located off of College Road and Shipyard Boulevard in Wilmington;
North Carolina. This letter, with attachments, is the report of our investigation.
Field Investigations
On September 3, 2003, ECS conducted an investigation of the subsurface soil and ground water
conditions at the location indicated on the provided Site Sketch. The infiltration test location
was selected by Mr. Michael -Newman of PM Engineering and located in the field by an ECS
representative. Tile purpose of our investigation was to determine the infiltration rate of the
subsurface soils at the test location. We investigated the subsurface soil and ground water
conditions by drilling one hand auger borings to the.depth of approximately seven feet below
the existing ground surface at the approximate location indicated on the site sketch. We
visually classified the subsurface soils. The attached Infiltration Evaluati011 Form provides a
summary of the subsurface conditions encountered at the hand auger boring location and the
results of our infiltration test.
Our field classifications indicate that the subsurface soils at the test location consisted of gray
silty fine to medium sand strata. Ground water was encountered at 60.,inches below existing
grade.
We conducted one infiltration tests near the hand auger boring location. The infiltration test
was conducted within the upper stratum of sands, where the base of an infiltration system will
be installed at least 24 inches above seasonal high ground water levels. The infiltration test was
performed at a depth of approximately 36 inches below existing grade. The results of the test
are summarized on the attached Infiltration Evaluation sheets and are also listed below.

Evaluations
Based on observations, it is our c►pinion that the seasonal high ground water level at the test
location is approximately 60 inches below existing grade.
In order to keep the base of the infiltration system at least 24 inches above the level of the
seasonal high ground water levels, the infiltration system will need to extend no deeper than 36
inches helow existing grade at the infiltration test location. Such installation depth will place
the base of the infiltration system within the upper stratum of moderately-drainable sands. Our
test results indicate that the infiltration rate for these materials is 1.5 inches per minute at the
test location. It is likely that the seasonal high groundwater conditions and infiltration rates can
vary across the site clue to naturally occurring soil type and because of the surface topography.
If you have any questions regarding this report, please do riot hesitate to contact tls.
