Annual Avg Daily Traffic (veh/hr/day): Design/Future: N/A Year: N/A Existing: 310 Year: 2013 General Project Narrative: This project will replace McDowell County bridge 0108 and its approaches along Alignment-L-. The project also includes changes to two other adjacent roads, Alignments -Y- (Description of Minimization of Water and -Y1-. The proposed replacement structure is a 172.25' overall length (1@30'; 2@70' span) cored slab bridge with a clear roadway of 33'-10" and an out to out width of 36'. Quality Impacts) This structure provides 2-10' travel lanes with a 6'-11" minimum shoulder on the left and on the right. The proposed bridge will have 1.5:1 sloping riprap abutments and 4' caps at the end bents. Placement and construction of the proposed bridge, end bents, caps, and associated roadway fill will not result in any jurisdictional stream or similar environmental impacts. There will be no permanent channel changes. There are no wetlands present within the proposed limits of construction. There are 57 linear feet of permanent surface water impacts and 25 linear feet of temporary surface water impacts (<0.01 acres of permanent surface water impacts and <0.01 acres of temporary surface water impacts) resulting from bank stabilization and bent removal. STORMWATER CONTROLS: The North Fork Catawba River is a designated trout water(Tr). The proposed bridge does not require deck drains. The runoff from the bridge discharges through a pipe/inlet system southwest of the bridge along Alignment-Y- and also through a concrete flume northwest of the bridge along Alignment-Y-outside of the jurisdictional stream at non-erosive velocities. In all bridge quadrants, roadway runoff is treated via vegetated roadway shoulders and existing/proposed vegetated swales prior to entering the stream. Class II rip rap for bank stabilization will be placed on either side of the channel down to an elevation just above the normal water surface. Erosion and sediment control measures are designed to a 25-yr level and to sensitive watershed standards.
