MAIN STREET POST OFFICE BOX 431 BELMONT, N.C. 28012 PHONE (704) 825-5586 Certified Mail Receipt # 7016 0910 0001 0220 5257 North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources 610 East Center Avenue, Suite 301 Mooresville, North Carolina 28115 Ref: Notice of Deficiency — Tracking No. NOD-2021-LV-0031 City of Belmont — NC0021181 Dear Corey Basinger: The City of Belmont is in receipt of the above NOD and as required, our response to this violation is as follows: Incident — The weekly Effluent Total Suspended Solids for week ending 12/26/2020 was reported as 47.77 mg/1 and the permit limit is 45 mg/1. On behalf of the City of Belmont, we believe that this incident was caused by the high number of solids not settling properly. Unfortunately, the lab company Belmont uses did not have alerts set up with staff to indicate when results were high. We have since corrected this issue and Belmont staff cleaned the effluent contact chamber on January 11, 2021 and contained the flow inside the plant. Additionally, Belmont began using a different settling agent to help solids settle in January 2021. Please reach out to me with any further questions or concerns. S'ncerely, anya S.
