Stream: Whitewater River
Proposed Project Length: 300 linear feet
Coordinates: 35.05278, -83.05222
Drainage Area: 7.4 square miles with 90% forested watershed
NCDEQ Classification: C;Tr;HQW
Stream restoration is proposed in the summer of 2021 in order to improve
water quality, stabilize eroding streambanks, and enhance natural
habitats for trout and other aquatic species. The project will apply natural
channel design techniques including streambank grading to a stable
slope, installation of a log j-hook vane and two log vanes, and riffle
enhancement with boulder clusters. Native riparian vegetation will be
planted for permanent buffer protection at least 50 feet from the water
edge.
