PROJECT: N/A DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: US 221 WIDENING, RUTHERFORD AND MCDOWELL COUNTIES, SOUTH OF SR 1168 (ASHWORTH ROAD) TO SOUTH OF I -40 3. There are no businesses that are impacted. 6. Multiple Listing Service, Homes.com, HUD, Section 8 Housing, Etc... 7. There does not appear to be a lot of low income families in this segment, however according to the latest U.S. Census data, more than 17% of the families in McDowell County are below the poverty level, thus, housing programs should be considered. 8. Last Resort Housing should be considered due to the income levels in the community. 11. Public housing is available through Section 8. 12. Based upon the visual and the available housing on the market, it appears that that there will be adequate DSS housing for this project. It should be noted that these properties have not been inspected to assure that they meet the DSS standards. The available DSS dwellings listed above are located in Rutherfordton, NC. More than 1,100 sales and rental listings are available in McDowell County. According to information provided by MLS and internet listings, there are very few rentals available below $400.00 in the McDowell County area. Note: (1) It should be noted that the data provided in this report was collected via a windshield view of each property. Thus it was difficult to determine tenant occupied homes, businesses, the number of employees, and the numbers of minorities as there were no interviews conducted. PROJECT: N/A DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: US 221 WIDENING, WATAUGA /ASHE COUNTIES, SOUTH OF I -40 TO NORTH OF I -40 3. Two businesses are impacted but there are adequate properties available to relocate. 4. Two businesses are impacted. They are as follows: 4248 US 221 South -Days Inn, appears to have some African Americans and Hispanic minority employees, 15 -20 employees, provides restaurant and over -night stay. 5052 US 221 South- Hollifield Sales, does not appear to have any minorities, 2 -3 employees, sells prefabricated buildings. 6. Multiple Listing Service, Homes.com, HUD, Section 8 Housing, Etc... 8. If a residential displacement should occur, Last Resort Housing should be considered due the income levels in the community. 11. If the need arises, public housing is available through Section 8. 12.
