A permit insures that your construction project complies with zoning and stormwater regulations. Your first stop is City Hall. City staff will sit down with you to discuss your construction project and lay out what you need to get started. Beginning with our development review checklist, we will discuss the steps you need to take and determine whether or not you need a permit. At that time Gen. Wil- liam Hardee was camped at Trinity College with 20,000 soldiers and 7,000 horses spread over six miles along the road leading to Archdale. General Hardee was in charge of the De- partment of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida and had slowed General William T. Sherman's March to the Sea by delaying Sherman at Savanna. Hardee later joined Gen. Joseph Johnston at the Battle of Ben- tonville and surrendered at Trinity when he learned that Johnston was negotiating sur- render at Bennett Place in Durham. Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Ordinance Background: Sanitary sewer overflows are a serious environ- mental problem and are a violation of the Clean Water Act. A large percentage of sewer over- flows and backups are caused by misuse of the collection system by the public. Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) can solidify in the pipe and cause stoppages. The Federal Government through the State of North Carolina is requiring utilities to meet minimum opera- tion standards through a permit process. The Collection Sys- tem Permit requires a FOG Ordinance to address this problem. Operating at or above this minimum standard provides some protection from fines and liability for property damage.
