The site is located in a drainage canal/borrow ditch adjacent US 264 near Engelhard that is under a large diesel powered pump that discharges to Otter Creek off the Pamlico Sound.
The site is in the vicinity of the Hyde County Airport.Surrounding land use is agriculture.

Purpose of project is to rebuild road shoulder and canal bank were erosion has occurred and then stabilize with class B riprap for a distance of 190 linear feet.The guardrail will be
repaired in this area.The guardrail post will be replaced.
4i.Describe the overall project in detail,including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used:*
The purpose of the project is to reshape road shoulder/canal bank where erosion and or subsidence has occurred by trucking earthen fill material to the site.An excavator working from
the road will place the fill in the eroded areas building a more consistent shoulder and slope.The riprap will be keyed into the base of the slope.Material from this excavation will be
worked into the canal bank slope as well.Once the canal bank slope has a final grade,geotextile cloth will be laid on the slope and into trench at the bottom of the slope.Class B riprap
will then be placed from the bottom working up the slope.The placement of riprap at the bottom will impact 884 ft'of open waters and canal bottom.The riprap will impact 3,089 ft'of
uplands on the canal bank slope.The guardrail support post will be replaced once the back stabilization is complete.There will be some localized,short-term turbidity during
construction that will be contained by a turbidity curtain.The curtain will remain in place for 48 to 72 hours after project completion.
