The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has proposed to remove Caswell County Bridge #117 on Gatewood Rd (SR 1780) over Country Line Creek. The existing structure is a six span bridge (1@36'-9", 4@37'-6", and 1@36'-9") and is a reinforced concrete deck girders, concrete abutments and bents. There is no proposed structure at this location. This project has been designed to have as little environmental, wetland, and surface water impacts as possible. There are no buffers at this location. The existing drainage will be maintained and the only quadrant that will be impacted and have any new drainage constructed is the NW quadrant where there is a rip-rap lined embankment that discharges into the stream at station 14+40 LT. Additionally, there will be added rip-rap where end bents one and two previously stood at stations 14+05 and 16+30 respectively in order to provide bank stabilization. There will also be a temporary causeway constructed in the channel during the removal of the structure, but will be removed once construction has been completed. Due to the nature of this low impact bridge removal, a decrease in stormwater discharges (post v. pre condition) occurs due to the removal of impervious area. Additionally, the existing ditches do not need to be modified and additional stormwater measures are not required.
