Dear Ms. Harmon:

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing to replace a bridge with a
double barrel box culvert on an UT to Drowning Creek in Burke County.

Impacts to Waters of the United States

NCDOT is proposing to install a double barrel box culvert on an existing roadway.

The project will result in impacts to waters of the United States in the Catawba River Basin (HUC
03050101). Specifically, NCDOT is requesting compensatory mitigation for impacts to 43 linear feet of
coolwater stream; the US Army Corps of Engineers will determine the required mitigation ratio.
