SOUTH OF NEW BERN WBS No 34442 1 1 R 2514BCD Onslow/Jones Counties The North Carolina Department of Transportation will hold two Design Public Hearings for the above mentioned highway project at the following times and locations INFORMAL PUBLIC HEARING FORMAL PUBLIC HEARING Tuesday, September 18 Thursday, September 13 Pre-Hearing Open House 4-6 30 p m 4-7p m Formal Presentation 7p m Maysville Elementary School Pollocksville Elementary School 814 Sixth Street 300 Trent Street Maysville 28555 Pollocksville 28573 The purpose of the hearings is to provide information regarding the design and location of the proposed project and to obtain public input Interested citizens may drop by at any time during the above mentioned hours NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will also be provided Additional material may be submitted until November 19 The formal public hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at Pollocksville Elementary School A formal presentation will begin at 7 p m The presentation will consist of an explanation of the proposed location design right of way and relocation requirements/ procedures The hearing will be open to those present for statements questions and/or comments This project proposes to improve a 16 mile portion of U S 17 between Deppe Loop ,Road (State Road 1330)/Springhill Road (SR 1439) south of Belgrade and the New Bern Bypass near the Jones/Craven County line south of New Bern The selected alternative includes a bypass of Belgrade and Maysville a bypass of Pollocksville and widening the existing highway between Maysville and Pollocksville The widening of U S 17 will conveOthe 'existing two lane highway to a four lane median divided highway The proposed highway will have 12 foot lanes paved shoulders and a 46 foot wide grassy median Additional right of way and the relocation of homes and businesses will be required for this project The project is also • designated as part of the NC Strategic Corridor system and is a hurricane evacuation route The purpose of the project will relieve traffic congestion and improve safety A map setting forth the location of the project and a copy of the approved environmental document— Record of Decision (ROD) are available for public review at the Pollocksville Town Hall located at 103 Main Street Pollocksville Maysville Town Hall located at 404 Main Street Maysville and at the NCDOT Resident Engineer s Office located at 209 S Glenburnie Road New Bern Anyone desiring additional information may
