NOTICE OF A CITIZENS PROJECT UPDATE MEETING
FOR THE PROPOSED WIDENING OF RAY ROAD (STATE ROAD 1121)
FROM OVERHILLS ROAD (STATE ROAD 1120) TO NC 210
TIP Project No U 3465 Harnett County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Citizens
Project Update Meeting on Monday October 29 2012 between 4 p m and 7 p m at
Overhills High School (cafeteria) located at 2495 Ray Road Spring Lake
NCDOT proposes to widen Ray Road (S R 1121) from Overhills Road (S R
1120) to N C 210 realign the Ray Road and Overhills Road intersection install three
round-abouts and realign the Ray Road / McKay Road / Hargrove Drive intersection
Ray Road will be widened from the existing two lane roadway to a four-lane divided
roadway with a raised grass median and will include an additional two feet on each
outside lane to accommodate bicycles and an additional ten feet of level area behind
the curb and gutter for any future sidewalks
The purpose of the project is to improve the traffic carrying capacity on Ray Road
and to accommodate future traffic There is anticipated growth in the area due to the
influx of a large number of military personnel family members and private contractors
associated with the military Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) program
NCDOT representatives will be available at the informal meeting to answer
questions and receive comments about the proposed project The opportunity to submit
written comments or questions will be provided and is encouraged Interested citizens
may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours Please note there will be no
formal presentation The Citizens Project Update Meeting maps for this project (U-3465)
are available online at http //www ncdot gov/projects/publicmeetings/
Right of way acquisition is scheduled to begin in November 2012 followed by
construction beginning in November of 2014 These dates are tentative and are subject
to change Additional acquisition of property will be required due to the existence of a
large utility easement between Creeksville Church Road and NC 210

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with

arrangements can be made

ability to read speak or understand English interpretive services will be available at the
