Land Application of Residuals
Gaston County
Mooresville Regional Office (MRO) staff met with Ms. Tanya Setzer (WWTP-ORC) and recent
pre-treatment staff hire, Marisol Ortiz for a compliance inspection / renewal of the residuals
permit.
The residuals processing, storage and records appeared in compliance at the time of inspection.
This permit is currently in the renewal process with our Central Office staff. Questions specific to
the renewal may be directed to Vivien.Zhonq(c�ncden.gov.
Ms. Setzer enquired about options to address removal of floating mats and woody vegetation that
has rooted in the non -mixing zones of the above ground, residuals storage tank. MRO staff
suggested speaking with residuals contractors, septage haulers and environmental contractors
for options.

Inspection Summary:

Comment: This facility did not land apply under their permit in 2020. A copy of the 2020 Annual Report was
available for review and shows residuals were managed as a source under the USBiosolids
Regional Class B permit #WQ0037135. Several truck Toads were also hauled by Synagro to a
processing facility in SC.

Comment: Ms. Setzer enquired about contractor options for removal of floating matts/woody vegetation
from the residuals storage tank.And, discussed potential adverse impact of Alum residuals
processing from Belmont WTP discharge, resulting in elevated solids. Planned to discuss with
Ori Tuvia, NPDES inspector at MRO.
