PROJECT SUMMARY: Applicant proposes to build a pier, platform, boatlift and observation deck to serve the lots in the subdivision. John S. Marsh, Jr. Teach's Point Phase IV Beaufort County Project Setting The project area is located Off SR1757; between Lots #45 & #46 adjacent to Slade Creek, in the Town of Bath, in Beaufort County North Carolina. Teach's Cove Phase IV consists of 13 individual lots with an average lot size of f 1.5 acres. Slade Creek is a tributary to Back Creek, which is classified as SB/NSW by the North Carolina Environmental Management Committee. At present, the only man-made features on the tract are the subdivision roads. The specific parcel for the pier is undisturbed in its wooded state. Vegetation on the tract consists of mixed hardwoods, pines, and shrubs. Slade Creek is ±213'wide at the project site. Per NCDCM regulations the total length of the structure shall be no more than '/a the width of the water body. The project site is bordered downstream by a section of undisturbed shoreline that runs into a single-family home in one of the developed phases of the Teach's Cove subdivision. The area upstream of the project site is undisturbed. Project description The applicant proposes to build a f 60 ~ ±5'4 "pier with a ± 15 ~ ± 8 T-head, and a ± 13 ~ ± 13' uncovered boatlift. A ~ 10~ ±20'open slated deck is proposed over land at the landward end of the pier. Anticipated impacts The construction of the pier and T-head and boatlift will result in the shading of ±744 ft2 of creek bottom. The open-slatted deck will shade ±200 ftz of shoreline. The project as proposed will result in localized turbidity as a result of the construction activities. Mike S.
