PROJECT NARRATIVE:
This project is a joint venture between the North Carolina Clean Water
Management Trust Fund, the NC Coastal Federation, Lux Farms, Natural
Resources and Conservation Service, and NC State University. This project
is Phase I of the larger Lux Farms Restoration Project. The project involves
erosion control, bulk earth movement, berm creation, installation of pump
stations, fords, culverts, and planting. The site is also planned for research
on the impacts to water quality, both during the construction and over several
years after project completion. Construction oversight will be performed
throughout the project by NCSU and NRCS staff.

GENERAL NOTES
1. The locations and extent of improvements shown are approximate. Exact locations and limits of
disturbance must be approved by the Project Engineer prior to construction.
2. All existing wetlands shall be protected from impacts: due to traffic and construction activities
unless where specifically indicated. Reparations for any damages as a result of construction
activities shall be the responsibility of the contractor.
3. Proposed contouring is shown for information only. Excavate improvements to the depths,
sideslopes, and grades indicated, and as staked and directed by the Project Engineer.
4. All sideslopes are 3:1(H:V) unless otherwise indicated. Slopes shall be seeded and established
with a dense stand of grass or covered with biodegradable erosion control blanket.
5. All pipe shall be installed according to the attached catails and to the manufacturer's
recommendations.
SEEDING NOTES:
Re -seed all disturbed areas, berms, and slopes as dire: ted. Temporary seeding at 25lbs /acre of:
Ryegrain - November through March
Browntop millet - April through October
Permanent seeding (Spring /Summer only) of:
50lbs /acre tall fescue
5lbs /acre centipede
25 Ibs /acre bermudagrass (hulled)
Apply fertilizer (10- 20 -20) at a rate of 500lbs /ac and lire at 4000lbs /acre. Spread straw mulch on any
disturbed areas at a rate of 1.5 tons /acre.

Riser, pipe, and headwall design to support (2) 36," vertical pumps. There will be
2 riser installations side by side to function as a single pump station. Notes on
sheet drawings:
1. Sheet 1 - Shows front view of riser
a. 16 foot overall height and 84" overall riser width. 10 gauge minimum
thickness.
b. 4 front fact vertical posts to be structural I beam design with channel, I
beam, or angle front, side, and back bracing as appropriate.
c. Center slot to accept vertical pump in board slots centered 50" apart.
d. Side slots to be permanently filled with :aluminum sheet welded in
place.
e. 60" discharge pipe stub, 5 feet long from riser back to be positioned as
drawn.
f. Bottom of riser to be open, concrete flooar will be poured. Outer I beam
vertical supports to extend to bottom with riser shell.
2. Sheet - Top view of riser and framing
a. Pump will have outer shell diameter of approx 42 ". No bracing can be
inside pump circle. Side mounting bosses extend out to 48" width for
mating with board slots.
b. Interior and exterior bracing as needed to stabilize riser and pump.
t
3. Sheet 3 -Top view of double riser arrangement with headwall layout , t e X. --'`
a. Splice plate to be in center of 2 risers, bolting two risers together forming ,Gt VIA
one structure.
b. Headwall to be bolted to each outer riser edge and angle back approx 32
degrees.
4. Sheet 4 - Headwall Overhead
a. Headwall approx 14 foot in length x 16 oot height. Outer edges of wall
will intersect bank approx 4 feet behind back of riser.
b. Headwalls to have exterior whalers at V', 10' and 15' from bottom
measuring up vertically, Holes to be draled for tieback rods every 3 to 4
feet horizontally.
c. From sheet 1, bottom of riser and headwalls will be encased in concrete
