On March 9th, 2021, Alex Lowe of the WSRO conducted a pretreatment program audit at the Mebane
Bridge WWTP facility (permit no. NC0025071). Pretreatment Program Director Chris Powell was
present throughout.
The audit started with an inspection of Weil-McClane Technologies, a categorical SIU under the
jurisdiction of the permiteted pretreatment program. Mr. Powell conducted a thorough administrative
review with the SIU representatives with the division -approved inspection form, and a tour of the
relevant pretreatment features was taken. Lowe observed the points of collection, all floor drains in the
production area, as well as the isolation precations (three-inch dykes and spill ocntainment pallets)
taken around the hazardous chemical storage/disposal area.
The first is in the "paint pit" area, where washed metal pieces drip-dry before heading into the painting
process. The drain is left open to the internal collection system, but can be isolated with a valve at the
point of entry. The next was a floor drain into which the floor sweepers will dump a mixture of water anc
sweepings after cleaning the production areas.Both floor drains were significantly removed from areas
of high risk for spillage or contamination.
After the tour, Lowe observed Powell collect a 24-hour composite from the SIU. Powell calibrated his
meters at the site of collection, thorohgly mixed the effluent composite before pouring samples, and
demonstrated proper storage temperature of collection jug as well as samples for transportation.
After delivering the effluent samples to Pace Analytical, Lowe and Powell conducted the Pretreatment
Paperwork Audit. All information requested was provided and supported with documentation.
The audit demonstrates satisfactory maintenance of documentation and proper execution of
pretreatment program elements.
