Subject Plan for Temporary Access to the Bridge Site
Dear Mr Midgett
In order to begin the structure work on Stage 1 of Bridge B 4599 we propose the following plan
for temporary access to the bridge site
Phase 1 Access
a Place crane mats in the foot print of Stage 1 section of the new bridge as shown on
the attached sketch The access will extend from End Bent #2 to Bent 96 or as far as
the existing overhead electric lines will allow The access will be no wider than 30
feet
b Starting with Bent #6 (or where OHE lines permit) drive the H piles and build the
cap
c Upon completion of Bent #6 back up to begin work on Bent #7 The crane mats
between Bents 6 & 7 will be moved west out of the bridge footprint to the location
shown for Phase 2 access on the attached drawings
d This sequence will be continued working toward End Bent #2 until the OHE lines
have been relocated
2 Phase 2 Access
a When the overhead electric lines have been relocated move the remaining mats on
the footprint of the bridge west to the Phase 2 location adjacent to the new bridge
b Complete the bridge from Bents 6 to 11 This will include any remaining
substructure work setting concrete girders and pouring the deck from the Phase 2
Access

3 Phase 3 Access
a Evaluate if remaining bridge can be constructed by continuing the crane mat access
from the north side or if a work bridge should be constructed to gain access from the
south side
b We request permission to install a work bridge across Knobb s Creek as an option to
gain access from the south side The work bridge consists of 40 foot spans supported
on pipe piles Since the work bridge spans are 160 % longer than the required 25
foot opening we request the option of leaving the work bridge in place until the
completion of Stage 1 construction
If further information is needed please do not hesitate to contact us at 434 845 0301
Sincerely
