Re: 601 North II — Union County ( #12 -0730)
Jacob's Landing — Rowan County ( 412 -0773)
Jacob's Ladder — Rowan County (412 -0774)
Hey Alan:
I looked through all three of these. The following are my comments for the EEP portal on the
draft Mitigation Plans for these sites.
601 North 11 — Union County — No comments or concerns about this project. Looks pretty
straightforward, just like 601 North I was.
Jacob's Landing — Rowan County
1) Project consists of a significant amount of Priority 2 Restoration. Our mitigation study
revealed a lot of problems with P2 sites in the Piedmont, specifically related to vegetation
survival and growth. The Provider needs to provide more details on topsoil management
and addressing potential compaction and fertility /organic matter issues.
2) The plan shows a number of drainage ditches entering the easement from pasture areas.
The plan proposes to stabilize with riprap and discharge directly to the stream. Routing
of this runoff to floodplain wetland treatment areas for retention/infiltration should be
considered, as NCEEP has been using these on projects for a number of years.
Jacob's Ladder— Rowan County —No comments or concerns about this project. Mostly P1
restoration with some E 1 and E2.
Let me know when you have reviewed these and we can pool our comments. Either you can
enter them on the portal or I can. Whatever you prefer. Comments for the Jacobs twins are due
8/24, and 601 North 11 are 8/26.
