maintenance. DAK intends to usetwo portable clarifier units during the repair period. Donald will phone this Office_
when the clarifier is back in service after maintenance.

Please send this office a written letter, by fax or email, and follow with regular mail, stating what is intended to
be repaired, when the maintenance operation will begin, and the expected completion date. Please phone this Office if,
DAK experiences any NPDES compliance problems, and/or if DAK needs more time in the completion of the clarifier
repair project. Please also phone this Office when the clarifier is put back on-line.

Donald Allbright and Elizabeth White phoned to report that on April 22, DAK's BOD of 122 Ibs/Day exceeded the NPDES
permit limit of 115.7 Ibs/Day Daily Max. DAK has intermittent discharge this month because of problems with their
main clarifier and the very low MLSS that has resulted because of the clarifier. The BOD immediately prior to the
exceedence was 21 Ibs/Day, on April 7. At this time, DAK is not discharging to the Cape Fear. They have been trying to
increase the MLSS by seeding from another plant, and by bioaugmentation. They are also presently having problems
with one of their two portable clarifiers that they rented in order to divert flow while they repair the main clarifier.
