Subject: pH exceedence at the Bladen Bluffs WTP
On last Tuesday (June 19), Buddy Harris reported a pH 9.4 at the Bladen Bluffs WTP for Tuesday (June 19). The pH was
performed at noon. It is a violation of the weekly pH. The violation was due to excessive algae growth in the two
reclamation basins that contain the backwash water from the sand filters. Buddy mentioned that the Cape Fear River is
having algae problems, and this causes algae in the backwash. They are adding ortho-phosphate for corrosion
inhibition, and this may cause phosphorus as a nutrient.
