3 Project Description
3a Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this
application
Hurricane Irene washed sand into the boat basin which has made portions of the boat basin unuseable The boat basin is
accessed from Core Sound via a channel

3d Explain the purpose of the proposed project
to dredge the sand from the basin
3e Describe the overall project in detail including the type of equipment to be used
The project consists of dredging and pumping or hauling sand and other organic matter from the Great Island boat basin
Less than 1000 cubic yards of sand will be removed and the basin restored to a useable depth of 5 feet The sand will be
disposed of within the interior of the island
NOTE Approval for additional dredging at other locations throughout Cape Lookout National Seashore is not being
requested through this document This PCN applies only to the boat basin at Great Island
