The proposed action involves constructing the US 221 Bypass of
Rutherfordton, in Rutherford County. The proposed Rutherfordton
Bypass extends along existing US 221 from north of 74 Bypass to
north of US 74 Business (R-2233BA) and new location from north of
US 74 Business to rejoining US 221 just north of SR 1366, (R-
2233BB). The proposed bypass will be constructed as a four -lane
roadway with a 46-foot median and will be approximately 8.5 miles
long.
Division 13 Construction has determined that extending the limits of
TIP R-2233BB into TIP R-2233BA by 1,340' will result in significant
cost savings in fill. R-2233BB is a borrow project and R-2233BA is a
waste project - this extension would allow for fill access for R-2233BB
and the reduction of tax dollar expenditures for this project. No new
impacts will result from this modification. NCDOT will consult with
USFWS to determine how this modification would effect the BO issued
for this project.
