The Greater Badin Water and Sewer District is responding to the notice of violation with respect to a
sanitary sewer discharge at the West Badin pump station on April 28, 2008. The volume of discharge is
estimated at 2000 gallons. A report of the overflow was report as required to NC DENR officials and
submitted for public notification to our local newspaper.
This discharge appears to be the result of an excessive rain event in a very short period of time on April
28, 2008. There was no evidence that grease, mots or other obstructions contributed to this overflow.
Greater Badin has not experienced a chronic problem with overflows at this location and does not
anticipate subsequent overflows at this location. The station will be monitored especially during rain
events to determine if this is an anomaly arising from a severe weather event and what type of remedial
actions could be employed to resolve any issue that arises.
Greater Badin has worked very hard during the course of the past few years to reduce inflow and
infiltration into the collection system and wastewater plant by investing millions of dollars in
rehabilitation of the system. We will continue to be vigilant concerning any sanitary sewer discharges
and in our efforts to maintain and rehabilitate our system.
