NCDOT proposes to replace the existing functionally deficient bridge
on SR 5469(Shopton Road)over Coffey Creek with a new bridge.
STV Engineers is providing planning,design,and Section 404/401
services on behalf of Division 10; a modified NRTR in support of
MCDC has been prepared; a delineation of waters of the U.S. has
been completed-jurisdictional waters of the U.S. in the project area
include Coffey Creek,two unnamed tributaries of Coffey Creek, and
one wetland. Replacing the existing bridge with a new bridge adjacent
to the current structure is the proposed alternative.This alternative
would allow the existing structure to maintain traffic during
construction while the new structure is being built. Once the bridge is
complete the traffic will be routed onto the new alignment and the old
bridge structure would be removed. Due to potential utility conflicts in
the vicinity of the existing bridge,an off-site detour is also being
evaluated.The project has a Let date of October 20, 2021.
