Hey Todd
I have been meaning to look into this further for a while and I finally got to it
Please excuse all of the attachments, but I feel like we are going to need this at some point I need to send them in
separate emails as I could not send all at once
I have attached the closeout figure, the "stream" starts near the western property boundary The topo shows a valley
with a stream starting in the central portion of the site, around where we saw the change in character on site The soils
map shows a feature extending most of the way onto the western side of the site, and is likely the former stream /ditch
that was there before the "restoration" was done The soils on the site are all hydric (some a and some B), but the
descriptions don't really sound like alluvial soils
The UDAR is quite informative There is no semblance of a valley on the western half of the site In fact there is a
ridgeline (old road ?) on the west side of the site So their "stream" actually crosses a ridgeline
I have been messing around with a website called USGS streamstats Attached is a topo with the National Hydrography
Dataset overlain It actually shows a stream feature originating on the west side of the site and flowing west I also
calculated watershed sizes on the site At the top end of the NHD blue line the watershed is 20 acres (TOP on map)A
little further down (A on map) the watershed is 27 acres At the confluence with the trib from the north (B on map) the
watershed is 108 acres
I have attached a summary of Periann's watershed size data from her stream mapping project As you can see, the
mean watershed size for a stream origin in the Carolina Flatwoods is 36 acres So based on watershed size, it is possible
that the original stream origin was somewhere on the western half of the site, it was not at the western edge of the site,
as this crosses the ridgeline
We still plan to go out in January or February and give it a thorough look However I have my doubts
