During the month plant staff observed a sandy/ silty material in the flow that was visible throughout the system. The material caused turbidity and TSS levels to be elevated. In the last week of the month plant
staff routed effluent flow to the upset ponds to further investigate and clean the process tanks. ONWASA collections crews and Inspections were notfied of the situation and began checking ongoing construction
sites and collection lines in the system. Although the plant was not discharging in the last week of the month, proficiency testing for fecal coliform and TSS were still conducted. The average for the the monthly
TSS while the plant was flowing was 5.48 mg/L. When including the proficiency results into the monthly average the TSS average drops to 5.13 mg/L still just above the monthly average limit of 5.0 mg/L. In
addition, the pH collected at the GWPS on 1/26/21 was below 6.5 mg/I. All other parameters were within the plant's permitted limits. The Wilmington Regional office was notified of the issues with the sand and
subsequent exceedences. Proficiency Testing TSS Results: Jan 26th - 4.70 mg/L Jan 27th - 4.50 mg/L Jan 28th - 3.10 mg/L
