The bridge failed on November 12, 2020. Proposed 2@70', 1@60' Cored Slab bridge to replace existing 175’ long by 28’ wide (reinforced concrete deck on I-beams) five-span bridge. Proposed bridge to be constructed and existing bridge to be removed using temporary workpads. Runoff from the existing bridge discharges directly into the river; however, the proposed bridge will have no direct discharge into the river. The minimum number of deck drains necessary to maintain safe passage by the traveling public will be installed over the overbank floodplain areas as far as possible from the edge of water. Stormwater runoff from the proposed bridge that bypasses the deck drains is to flow to traffic bearing grated inlets on the east and west sides of the roadway at the north approach of the bridge where it will be diffused with a riprap pad at the proposed pipe outlet on the west side of the approach. All proposed stormwater runoff is discharged as far away from the stream and at the lowest velocities as practicable. Please note, NCDWR Stream Index Number and associated classifications change at this road crossing. Upstream index number and classifications are shown in table below.
