Here's the latest email I tried to put in, but I haven't been able to get any emails into LF. I was able to drag and drop the
attachment into the LF project folder this time although I've had some trouble with that also. The # is 20141325.

STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Roy COOPER J. ERIC BOYETTE
GOVERNOR SECRETARY
1 February 2021
Mr. Greg Daisey
Projects Field Representative
North Carolina Division of Coastal Management
401 South Griffin Street Suite 300
Elizabeth City, North Carolina 27909
Dear Mr. Daisey:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is requesting to renew for
maintenance purposes Major CAMA permit no. 8-15 issued on 29 January 2015 for road
shoulder/shoreline stabilization and a gravel turnaround on the north ramp (SR 1500) of the Sans
Souci ferry on the Cashie River in Bertie County near Windsor, North Carolina. The permit
underwent a minor modification on the 29 April 2015 to revise the proposed method of shoreline
stabilization at the ferry ramp from riprap to a steel sheet pile bulkhead and to change the end date
for the anadromous fish moratorium from 30 June to 1 June. This permit expired on 31 December
2020.
All work authorized by this permit has been completed. However, the existing riprap has subsided
and needs maintenance. Erosion caused by high river levels has resulted in new areas threatened by
erosion. The gravel loading ramp and turnaround on the north ferry ramp needs maintenance and
improvements as well. Due to budget constraints, NCDOT was unable to undertake any necessary
maintenance or request additional authorizations under the existing permit since the last renewal.
I appreciate Cathy Brittingham bringing the expiration of this permit to my attention and your
willingness to consider a 5-year maintenance timeframe. If you have any questions please contact
me by email, sitrowel1@ncdot.ggv or (252) 402-4015. The $100 permit renewal fee can be charged
to WBS no. 1.2008112.
Sincerely,
Sterling Baker, P.E.
