Project Description
The purpose of this 3,405' +/- sanitary sewer gravity and force main relocation is due to the fact
that NCDOT will be adding a bridge and Interchange with roundabouts at US 74 at SR 1506 (Old
Boardman Rd. / Macedonia Church Rd.)
The improvements include the construction of approximately 320 LF of 15" SDR 35
PVC gravity sewer main which will be placed via open cut method, 2,622 LF of 10"
C900 DR18 PC 235 PVC force main sewer main which will be placed via open cut
method, 301 LF of 10" RJ DIP force main sewer which will be placed via open cut and in
a steel encasement pipe and 162 LF of 8" SDR 35 gravity sewer main which will be
placed via open cut method. This work will be performed in accordance with the
NCDOT BMP for Construction and Maintenance Activities dated August 2003.
The new relocated sanitary sewer gravity and force main will be owned, operated, and
maintained by Town of Boardman Water and Sewer Department. All construction will be
in accordance with the latest standards and specifications of the NCDOT, North
Carolina Department of Transportation and the NCDEQ, Division of Water Resources,
Water Quality Permitting, PERCS Unit.

Re: 10-inch Forcemain Relocation
TIP Project # R-5797
Mr. Maness,
We have completed a review of the proposed modifications to the existing 10-inch forcemain
that is part of the regional wastewater system serving Fair Bluff, Cerro Gordo, and Boardman.
Based on record drawings for the existing forcemain and pump station and design drawings for
the proposed modification, we have determined that the proposed project will increase the
overall head loss in the pumping system and reduce flow slightly. Based on the design condition
and pump model listed on the as -built drawings, we estimate that the forcemain modifications
will decrease the pump rate by 5 to 10 GPM or about 1.5% of the permitted pump flow.
The pump rate following the proposed project is expected to exceed the flow required by
NCDEQ minimum design criteria for self-cleaning velocity. In addition, the reduced pump rate
will provide a peak factor greater than 2.5 x's the permitted design flow of 0.295 MGD. Plan
excerpts, pump curve, and calculations supporting these conclusions are attached.
Please let me know if you have questions or need anything else.
Sincerely,
LKC ENGINEERING, PLLC
