feet long 21 cored slab bridge ( 1 @ 40 , 1 @ 55 1 @ 40 ) to replace the existing 120 feet long bridge #36 on SR 1123 over South Flat River The total project length is 0 157 miles The project is located in the Neuse River Basin The project drainage system consists of grass shoulders, grated inlets with associated pipes toe protection and rip rap pad at the pipe outfall Jurisdictional Streams South Flat River ENVIRONMENTAL DESCRIPTION The project is located within the Neuse River Basin in Person County The stream is classified as Class WS -III NSW Storm water impacts to the stream have been minimized by utilizing sheet flow on grass shoulders along the roadway and using rip rap pad through compliance with Buffer Rules to diffuse flow through buffer before entering the stream The existing drainage patterns have been maintained with the hydraulic design of the project BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AND MAJOR STRUCTURES The primary goal of Best Management Practices (BMPs) is to prevent degradation of the states surface waters by the location construction and operation of the highway system The BMPs are activities practices and procedures taken to prevent or reduce stormwater pollution The BMP measures used on this project to reduce stormwater impacts are Sheet flow on grass shoulders along the roadway This will promote infiltration and filtration of pavement runoff by directing sheet flow over grassed shoulder slopes Compliance with Buffer Rules to diffuse flow NE quadrant Proposed roadway is in fill section and no proposed ditch or storm drain outlet (concentrated flow) is expected through buffer Thus sheet flow will be provided through buffer NW quadrant Proposed roadway is in fill section and no proposed ditch (concentrated flow) is expected through buffer Pipe outlet protection with class B rip rap will be used to dissipate energy and diffuse flow from bridge stormwater outlet at 15 +80 LT to provide a non erosive sheet flow to the outfall area with Q 10 =0 66 cfs and V 10 =0 54 fps This will provide approximately 50 of sheet flow before entering the buffer Preformed Scour Hole cannot be used at th s location because the slope of the ground downgrade is 11 0% (too steep) SE quadrant Proposed roadway is in fill section and no proposed ditch or storm drain outlet (concentrated flow) is expected through buffer Thus sheet flow will be through buffer No deck drains This will avoid direct discharge of storm water from the bridge deck into the receiving water Bank stabilization Bank stabilization with class II rip rap is provided at
