It is not valid for Historic Architecture and Landscapes. You must consult separately with the Historic Architecture and Landscapes Group. PROJECT INFORMATION Project No: County: Cabarrus WBS No: 17BP.10.C.4 Document: State Minimum Criteria Checklist Federal Aid No: Funding: State Federal Federal Permit Required? Yes No Permit Type: DENR Project Description: Replace pipe 15 on SR 1616 (Tuckaseegee Rd.) over Mill Creek in Cabarrus County. The Area of Potential Effects (A.P.E.) is approximately 244 meters (800 ft.) long and 60 meters (200 ft.) wide. Project is State-funded and will require Federal permits. Easements will be required. SUMMARY OF CULTURAL RESOURCES REVIEW Brief description of review activities, results of review, and conclusions: The review included an examination of a topographic map, an aerial photograph, and records about previously recorded sites, previous archaeological surveys, and previous envrionmental reviews at the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology (OSA) in Raleigh. The A.P.E. is oriented approximately east-west. The topographic map (Enochville) shows the A.P.E. is located in a narrow creek valley with moderate- to steeply-sloped ridges on each side. Narrow floodplains and sloped ridges have a low to moderate potential for archaeological sites. Much of the A.P.E. is depicted as cleared, and there are no structures shown. The landform in the northwest quadrant is a narrow floodplain along the creek and a sloped ridge at the west end. The landform in the southwest quadrant is narrow floodplain and a sloped ridge at the west end. The landform in the southeast quadrant is a slightly wider floodplain and a sloped ridge at the east end. The landform in this quadrant may be within a drainage valley. The landform in the northeast quadrant is a narrow floodplain and a sloped ridge at the east end. The aerial photograph shows the A.P.E. is cleared (residential yard and driveway) in the southwest quadrant. The northwest quadrant is cleared next to the bridge, and wooded at the west end. The northeast quadrant is cleared next to the bridge, and wooded in the east half. The southeast quadrant is cleared next to the bridge, and wooded in the east half. There are no previously recorded archaeological sites within or adjacent to the A.P.E. The A.P.E. is not within any areas that have been previously surveyed for archaeological sites. The A.P.E. is not within any projects that have been reviewed by the State Historic Preservation Office (HPO). Project Tracking No. 18-10-0044 “No ARCHAEOLOGY SURVEY REQUIRED” form for Minor Transportation Projects as Qualified in the 2015 Programmatic Agreement. 2 of 6 Brief Explanation of why the available information provides a reliable basis for reasonably predicting that there are no unidentified historic properties in the APE: The landforms within the A.P.E. (narrow floodplain and sloped ridge sides) have a low to moderate potential for archaeological sites.
