Therefore, outward movement at the top of the wall should be expected. Some cracks could develop at the ground surface due to lateral movement of the wall. These cracks should be filled in as soon as they are observed to help protect the soils below the ground surface from softening related to water infiltration that could affect the support characteristics for adjacent construction. Global stability analysis and settlement analysis are based on presumed soil characteristics that must be verified during construction. The Owner shall engage a licensed geotechnical engineer during construction to verify that the assumed soil conditions are representative of the conditions encountered during construction. The Engineer requests that representatives of the owner and/or general contractor arrange a pre -construction meeting with all pertinent parties involved for the construction of the retaining wall shown on these plans. The Engineer's responsibility is limited to providing only the design services of the project's retaining wall contained herein. Retaining wall construction monitoring and retaining wall certifying are beyond the scope of these design services. The Engineer shall not be required to sign any document, no matter by whom requested, in which the Engineer is required to certify, guarantee, or warrant conditions of which the Engineer has not or cannot ascertain. This retaining wall was designed using no live loading surcharge conditions, a dead load surcharge commensurate with the existing building located to the northeast. and no additional lateral loading conditions. Structures such as light poles, handrail, guardrail, or drainage structures to be installed in the vicinity of the retaining wall shall be designed and constructed to resist imposing additional lateral loads on the retaining wall. If future construction alters the assumed loading conditions of the retaining wall, TerraTech Engineers, Inc, shall be notified to review the design criteria for the imposed loads. Construction Notes 1. Prior to construction, confirmation of the distances to property lines, Tree Buffers, curb and gutter, and/or buildings to the face of the proposed wall shall be performed. The site civil engineer shall review these plans with respect to the final location of the structure (top and bottom of the retaining wall) as a result of the proposed wall batter. 2. Prior to construction, confirmation of existing utility line locations (Stormwater, Sewer, Water, Electrical, and Gas) and the locations of future utility lines shall be performed. 3. Prior to construction, confirmation of the in -situ and proposed grades shall be performed. TerraTech Engineers, Inc. shall be notified if the site grades differ than those provided on the enclosed survey. 4. During construction, care must be exercised to prevent the undermining of any existing structures 5. A foundation bearing capacity of 2, 000 pounds per square is required for this retaining wall. The bearing capacity should be verified by our representative prior to the placement of the leveling pad. 6. Install galvanized woven wire mesh gabion baskets that are in accordance with ASTM A975 specifications in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. 7. Fill baskets with a minimum of two layers with NCDOT Class 'B' rip -rap. The baskets should be overfilled I to 2 inches to allow for settlement of the rock. The cells should be filled in stages so that local deformation is avoided. At no time shall any cell be filled to a depth exceeding I foot higher than the adjoining cell. 8. Place and compact the backfill behind the baskets simultaneously to the same level as the filled gabions. 9. After construction, heavy equipment should not be operated within 3 feet behind the wall face to prevent failure of the retaining wall.
